Clinton came over on Christmas Eve and I made us dinner.  Called G and she was still shopping late.  We 2 watched TV specials.  A new one was "Prep & Landing", which was really cute!  I recommend that one.  C is an early bird and G is a night owl; I'm somewhere in between.  C was tired & ready to wear out when G & H came over at 10:00.  They had leftovers and visited for awhile.

Made a nice Christmas breakfast, and C & I opened each others' presents.  I gave him the CDs of Ender's Shadow read aloud.  I got him hooked on Ender's Game this fall, and I think he will like this sequel.  He gave me some nice sweatshirts, a 3-D calendar, and some other stuff.

Kept calling G & finally got through.  She set the alarm wrong and couldn't hear the phone.  She & H arrived.  I gave her a WoW book and some other odds & ends.  She gave me a USB turntable and H set it up and experimented on a record.  That is so cool!  G helped make dinner & we 4 ate together.  Hung around some.  C left & I showed G&H the "Prep & Landing" show.  We all got sleepy and they left.  I watched some more Christmas TV.  Punkin was happy to be out of the kitchen and have companionship.

Found out this morning that one of the charter founders of SheVaCon passed away on Christmas Eve.  So sorry to hear that, he was a great guy.

Gotta clean up the house now and tackle cleaning the cellar.  It got all scrambled this fall, and I'll have a team of people traipsing through it come February.

Work let us out early Wednesday.  I went by Towers Mall to get a few things and figured it wouldn't be crowded until 5:00.  It was crowded.  It may have been worse after 5:00, though.

Whoopee!  It's Christmas Eve!  I cleaned the kitchen, took care of my invalid, cut some holly and pine and decorated a few things, wrapped the presents, vacuumed, made another batch of snickerdoodles, and made a pumpkin spice Christmas cake.  I put walnuts and cinnamon hots in the bottom of the pan for decoration, but they stuck to the pan and tore up the cake.  Oh well, just add more cinnamon hots and colored sprinkles to hide the holes.  G & C are both supposed to come over about 5:00 to have our traditional Christmas Eve dinner of sloppy Joes and watch specials on TV.  I have tomorrow's breakfast & dinner ready to cook.  I guess I'm ready!

Merry Christmas, everybody!

Wore myself out shoveling and sledding on Saturday.  Sunday, I got the car freed up enough to go pick up Grace and bring her home to help put up the tree.  Lois drove here from NC and made good time.  We took G home and got BBQ from Towers.  Watched a movie, the director’s cut of Amadeus.  That contained scenes that were cut from the theater release.  I had Monday off.  We watched another movie About Schmidt.  It was sad and kind of slow-moving.  Took Punkin to the vet again; they groped his leg to see how it was healing.  They also cleaned out his ears because they were itching, but now they seem to itch worse.  Poor Punkie.  He has had intestinal trouble for the past few years and I gave him Prednisone this summer, but it made him run away.  When he came back, I promised him I wouldn’t give it to him anymore.  He broke his arm 2 years ago and had to wear a cast and got infected inside the cast.  Now the thigh is broken and he got surgery and then got sciatica from the pin, and I kept him in a cage and he cried all the time, and his ears itch.  He’s very elderly, and this is no way to spend your golden years.  I hope he gets better enough to enjoy life.  He’s going to stay inside from now on, and I’m keeping the other two inside, too.

Wednesday was our annual "safety lunch" at work.  The department put on a nice catered lunch for us with safety as the politically correct theme.  Thursday, Frannie was here and Grace came over after work.  We had lasagna, then I met some pals at B&N and went by Walmart.

Friday, the weather forecast was for a big snowstorm!  Everybody at work was watching the windows, and it started about 2:20.  It came down hard and fast!  Work sent us home at 3:00, and I skidded on Grandin and on Belleville.  Grace got sent home early and took 1.5 hours to get home.  I made bread and listened to the neighbor kids romping in the snow.

This morning I woke up early to Punkie's howling.  We got about 18" of snow!  Yippeeeeee!  I shoveled my sidewalks, then went sledding at Woodrow Wilson park.  There were several families there with young kids, and as soon as I arrived at the top of a slope, a little girl sat down on my sled, so I had a passenger.  I was the oldest person there with the BIGGEST sled in the neighborhood.  Waded back home through unplowed sidewalks and lent my sled to a neighbor family.  Karen across the street has a big snow blower and Bruce next door to her got it working and cleared their shared driveway.  Then he came over and snow-blew my driveway!  Wasn't that nice!  I took a plate of cookies to them.  Have I mentioned what a great neighborhood this is?

Tuesday, I went to meet my M friends at Earthworks pottery shop in Vinton. My biking buddy just opened it there. We got a tour and nice snacks, then walked a block in the pouring rain to the Dogwood restaurant.

Wednesday I took a vacation day to run errands. Applied for a passport at the P.O., went to AAA & got a map & tour book of Scotland (!), got my chain saw sharpened while I watched, and got a few groceries. Missed the narrow window of open swim at the Gator pool. C came over after work and we went to Red Lobster to celebrate our 11th anniversary. Home & watched a few things on TV and let Punkie sit on the sofa with us. He cries a lot nowadays; I don’t think he’s in much pain, but he’s lonely, bored, frustrated, and depressed about being jailed in the cage. When I let him out to sit with me, he curls up and goes to sleep. He’s not using the leg, but the doctor says the nerve should heal in a few months. I hope so. Poor purring Punkin puss.

Friday, C & I went to dinner ay NY pizza for his birthday, then hurried back downtown to Dickens of a Christmas. We saw the parade & our legs got tired. Saturday, he helped me make cookies. I made the shortbread cut-outs and he decorated them, putting gunshot wounds on the groundhog cookies and eyebrows on the angels. He left & I made peppermint brownies and snickerdoodles.

Sunday was the SheVaCon online meeting, then my neighbor's choir came around caroling. They skipped my house, so just for that I went out and tagged along with them. Monday I went to Valley View mall. It wasn't bad for December. Still don't have a lot of presents.
